This project is combining the author’s high quality images of the moon and sky with traditional storie. The photos are taken on unceded territories of the WSÁNEĆ and Lekwungen Peoples where they live.

The WSÁNEĆ peoples are comprised of the Tsartlip, Tseycum, and Tsawout Nations, and it is my understanding that the Saanich calendar, which relates to economic and cultural activities of Coast Salish Nations, is also shared by the Lekwungen People of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations upon whose unceded territory I live.

On this site I will document my inquiry journey into sky stories relevant to the land where I live, on the unceded territories of the WSÁNEĆ and Lekwungen Peoples

Why is this site inspiring to you?

I am intrigued by the idea of connecting the traditional stories of people who have lived under these skies with detailed photographs. I rather like the moon, but I know little of the stars. But the stories weave it together.

Where is this site?

The project is just beginning so follow it at https://wsanec-sky.opened.ca/
